Get SMART is an online interactive course ideal for students completing health and physical education in high school. This non-accredited course is perfect for year 9 and 10 students, providing an introduction to injury prevention and management at a level appropriate for school students.
Get SMART consists of 6 modules:
- Warm Up and Cool Down
- Approaches to Injury Prevention
- Immediate Management of Injuries
- Environmental Conditions
- Infectious Diseases & Infection Control
- Medical Conditions
Each module takes approximately 25 minutes to complete and includes interactive content including: video footage, case studies, and advice from experts in the field. Being an online course also means that students do not have to complete the entire course in one sitting.
Once they have logged onto the course; students can save their progress and come back at any time or any place to complete the remaining modules. As students complete small assessment quizzes along the way, Get SMART also makes it very easy for teachers’ to keep track of each student’s progress.
Whilst ideally aimed at year 9 and 10 students, Get SMART can be used with any student from year 8 right through to year 12. Completing the course also presents schools and students with opportunities for further education, with SMA-SA offering follow up visits to teach practical sports taping sessions. Both of these courses can be recognised as prior learning for SMA-SA’s
Level 1 Sports Trainer Course, which upon completion gives students a nationally accredited qualification as a Sports Trainer (Contact the
SMA-SA office for further details).
